SICA is launching a global project that can involve as many poets and poetry lovers as wish to be involved. All over the world. Everywhere.

I am hoping you can help us get the word out to your poetry community — and of course, we would certainly welcome any of you becoming part of this initiative.

So here's the deal.

SICA is also part of a global coalition of NGOs in support of Peace One Day which is mobilizing a worldwide celebration of International Peace Day on Friday, Sept. 21. Yes, this is a global initiative. So please feel free to share far and wide!

Each NGO in the coalition is invited to sponsor or organize an activity in honor of peace on that particular day. SICA is inviting everyone to share Poems for Peace on that day. And everyone can be involved. People do not have to be connected to SICA. They just have to love poetry and be willing to share their love of poetry with others on Sept. 21 in honor of Peace Day. And yes, they also have to love peace.

Can you help us share our invitation to all poets, poetry groups, poetry teachers, poetry lovers, singers, dancers, artists, actors, pipers, players — and friends — in all your communities?

We are inviting all who wish to participate to create and share poetry on Friday, Sept. 21 — any time of the day, wherever they are. People can do this via flash mobs, poetry readings, parties, slams, performances, workshops, exhibits, classes, concerts, games, etc. People can recite, write, read, perform or sing their poetry. Original works or favorites. Students can create poet corners in schools, children and artists can make chalk poems on sidewalks, people can put up poetry post-its in random places. There's all sorts of ways to celebrate. People can do this in their homes, in parks, in halls and malls, in public squares, in churches, in schools — wherever they are. But always in honor of Peace.
