Irena Praitis' latest collection of poems, Straws and Shadows, will launch Thursday, July 5 at the Muckenthaler Cultural Center. The collection, Moon Tide's 16th release, was inspired by the experiences of Irena's ancestors who lived in Lithuania between the World Wars. Some poetry collections read like mini-novels, and this is one of them — by the end, you'll feel like you've taken a journey through a unique time and place, and also picked up a couple of nifty recipes for bread and sausage.

The launch begins at 7:30 p.m. and the Muckenthaler is at 1201 W. Malvern Ave. in Fullerton. There will be an open reading as well. We hope you can make it!
