Lee Mallory has officially retired. At present is making plans to move to Las Vegas, where he has been caring for his mom. Beloved by many and offensive to some, but always unique, Lee is an icon of Southern California poetry. The OC Weekly has dubbed him both THE LOVE POET and ONE OF THE SCARIEST MEN IN ORANGE COUNTY. Whatever corner you happen to be drawn to, one must admit that Lee has been a powerhouse presence, promoter and producer.
Lee has been a tireless supporter of poetry in the O.C., has given many up-n-comers their first break and has run two monthly readings for over 20 years. His series THE FACTORY READINGS has hosted the creme of the creme of the poetry world, as well as bringing talented musicians like Courtney Montgomery, Wendy Piatt, Ryan Strassburg, Vanessa Jourdan (and MANY more) to our attention.
I am proud that he chose me to help run that legacy in the later years. I was hoping that he would personally close out the series in a grand send off. Sadly, Lee has too many plates spinning and that just became unfeasible. So, as of this notice, THE FACTORY READINGS at Gypsy and Alta will no longer be.
Lee wishes to: "thank all the participating poets, features, appreciative audiences, and dear friends; as well as co-producers, musicians and venue hosts, for making the Readings possible.
This is how the end of an era feels. Lee, we wish you the best in Vegas. Come visit when you can!
